Recipes With All-American Caviar ? CBS Tampa

(MIGUEL MEDINA/AFP/Getty Images)

(MIGUEL MEDINA/AFP/Getty Images)

Caviar, like the ones from Fauchon, used to be an indulgence reserved for special occasions or the wealthy. These days, it?s relatively easy to find different types of American caviar, from Spoonbill to Sturgeon. American Sturgeon is still a bit pricey, but Spoonbill and Paddlefish have lovely flavor and won?t break your wallet. And if you?re tired of serving caviar with toast points, here are a few other ideas from the Food Nation Radio Network lockbox.

Appetizer ? Red Potatoes with Caviar and Creme Fraiche

Ingredients

Small new potatoes

1 ounce of American caviar

Creme fraiche

Method

Boil new potatoes for about ten minutes or until easily pierced with the tip of a knife. Allow to cool in the refrigerator. Slice a tiny piece off the bottom of each potato so they will stand upright. Slice a piece off the top and scoop out some of the flesh with a melon baller. Fill with creme fraiche and top with a dollop of caviar. Serve with champagne.

Here?s a quick little recipe that will ?wow? your friends. It literally takes less than ten minutes to make.Boursin Benedict with Caviar

Ingredients

1 large apple

4 large eggs

2 tsp white vinegar

2 TB butter

4 oz of Shitake mushrooms

2 oz of Boursin cheese with chives (or add 1 TB of fresh chives when you make the sauce)

1 TB flour

1/2 cup of whole milk

2 pinches of sea salt and white pepper

1/4 lb of Prosciutto de Parma

1/2 oz of American caviar

chives for garnish (optional)

Method

Fill a large frying pan with about 2 inches of water. Add vinegar. Place on the stove over high heat until it starts to simmer, then turn down to medium. Crack ONE egg into a cup to make sure yolk is intact and no shell is present. Pour carefully into pan, keeping yolk intact and swirl the white around the yolk with a wooden spoon. Carefully run spoon under egg to make sure it doesn?t stick to the bottom of the pan. Repeat with other eggs. Simmer for 2 minutes or until white is coagulated. Remove with slotted spoon to a plate. Cover to keep warm.

Using apple corer, core apple. Slice apple across into 4 thick slices, about 3/4? thick. Empty water from frying pan and add 1 TB of butter. Heat over medium high eat. When butter melts add apple slices. Quickly saute about 2 minutes on each side until golden. Remove to the plate with the eggs. Cover.

Remove stems from Shitakes. Slice caps into strips. In the same pan (which should still have butter in it) add mushrooms. Add a pinch each of salt and pepper. Saute over medium high heat for a couple of minutes until they start to turn golden. Remove to the same plate. Cover.

Rinse the pan and wipe it out. Add last TB of butter and the flour. Over medium high heat, stir with wooden spoon until butter melts and a roux forms. Add milk and whisk until the sauce thickens. Remove from heat. Add cheese and chives (if using). Add a pinch of salt and pepper. Taste for seasoning.

For serving, add a slice of apple to the center of each plate. Add a slice of prosciutto mounded on each apple. Add a poached egg on top to each plate. Spoon over a couple tablespoons of sauce. Add a dollop of caviar. Scatter the Shitakes around the plate. Serve.

If you want to make a romantic lobster dish that?s a little different, check out my recipe for butter-poached lobster with red wine fettuccine in caviar sauce. It?s an easy dish you can make at home to ?wow? your friends, family or date. It?s still an elegant dish with the pasta and caviar, if you want to omit the lobster.

Ingredients

1 Brazilian lobster tail or 1 lb lobster

1 stick butter

1 bottle of red wine (750 ml)

sea salt

1 10 oz package fresh fettuccine (refrigerated section)

1/2 cup Greek yogurt

1 ounce caviar

exotic peppercorn blend

Method

Using a large pot, boil water and poach lobster for 5 minutes. Remove and cool. Take off shell and cut lobster meat into bite-sized pieces. Rinse pot and add the whole bottle of wine. Bring to a boil. Add sea salt as you would to pasta water. In a 2-quart saucepan, add 1 TB water. Cut butter into 8 TB. Whisk in 1 TB at a time until you have a butter emulsion. Add pasta to water. Boil for time listed on package. Put lobster in saucepan with the butter and simmer for 5 minutes (don?t let boil). Drain pasta, add yogurt and caviar, using tongs to coat the pasta. Using a slotted spoon, take out lobster meat from the saucepan and scatter around the plate. Grind a little exotic peppercorn around the edge of the plate. Serve immediately.

CIA remembers those lost in covert operations

WASHINGTON (AP) ? The CIA is remembering those lost in the hidden, often dangerous world of espionage, adding a new star to the intelligence agency's memorial wall and more than a dozen names to its hallowed Book of Honor.

The new star carved into the wall is for Jeffrey Patneau, a young officer killed in a car crash in Yemen in September 2008.

"Jeff proved that he had boundless talent, courage and innovativeness to offer to our country in its fight against terrorism," said CIA Director David Petraeus at a private ceremony at CIA headquarters this past week.

Petraeus' tribute was the first public identification of Patneau. The stars on the memorial wall at headquarters in Langley, Va., bear no names.

Yemen, the ancestral homeland of al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden, was the site of the 2000 bombing of the USS Cole, which killed 17 American sailors. Patneau was part of the fight against militants in the country in a tense year in which the U.S. Embassy in Sanaa was attacked.

With the addition of the star for Patneau, the wall now commemorates the lives of 103 Americans who died in service of the CIA, "never for acclaim, always for country," Petraeus said at the annual event attended by hundreds of employees and family members of those lost. The rememberance came just days ahead of Memorial Day, when the nation remembers its military veterans and those who died in war.

The addition of 15 names to the CIA's Book of Honor means family members can openly acknowledge where their loved ones worked when they died.

Leslianne Shedd was lost when hijackers forced down her plane over the Indian Ocean, killing more than 125 people.

"Everybody who was on the plane with her who survived said she was not at all scared," her sister, Corinne Collie, told The Associated Press on Saturday. "She was saying it's all going to be okay, holding the hand of the person sitting next to her."

Collie says the agency approached her family a year ago, saying it was now possible to acknowledge her death ? likely meaning the cases she had worked on had been wrapped up, or staff she worked with had either retired or were no longer in harm's way. Collie said being able to share what her sister did has been a relief.

"To lose a sister and not be able to talk about the full picture of who she was has been hard," said Collie of Tacoma, Wash.

"The biggest relief is my parents ... get to acknowledge and brag about her, especially my dad," she said.

Like Shedd, most of those honored were killed in the clandestine war on terrorism, the list reading like a grim roll call of terrorist acts of the last three decades. Matthew Gannon was among the victims of the December 1988 bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland. Molly Hardy was killed in the August 1998 suicide bombing of the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi. She urged others to take cover as she was hit by the blast from an al-Qaida car bomb.

Jacqueline Van Landingham was killed in a terrorist attack in Pakistan in 1995. The CIA did not disclose how she died.

CIA officers face constant threat in Pakistan, hunting and hunted by the Taliban and al-Qaida. They often play a cat-and-mouse game with Pakistan's intelligence service, sometimes able to work with them and sometimes forced to work around them to gather intelligence on al-Qaida's militant diaspora. U.S. officials say it gets support from elements of the Pakistani government.

Five of those remembered were victims of the April 1983 suicide bombing of the U.S. embassy in Beirut that killed 63 people.

Among the CIA officers lost was Phyliss Nancy Faraci, "one of the last four Americans evacuated from the Mekong Delta when Saigon fell" during the Vietnam War, according to CIA spokesman Todd Ebitz. Faraci had volunteered to work in war-torn Beirut.

Deborah Hixon, a young officer fluent in French who volunteered for a temporary posting there, also died in the attack. Frank Johnston was a 25-year agency veteran who had accepted the assignment though he was close to retirement.

Paramilitary officer James Lewis, who had joined the CIA after his military career, and his wife, Monique Lewis, also were killed. Lewis was "only hours into her first day as an Agency officer when the bomber struck," Ebitz said.

Broadcasters sue Dish over ad-skipping DVR service

(AP) ? Broadcasters Fox, NBC and CBS sued Dish Network Corp. on Thursday over a service that offers commercial-free TV.

Dish, the nation's second-largest satellite TV provider, filed a suit of its own seeking a judicial all-clear for its "AutoHop" ad-skipping technology. Dish said the unique service it launched this month doesn't violate copyrights and that it is seeing a "groundswell of support from consumers."

The fight is over a subtle but key question: Whether TV distributors can cut out commercials on consumers' behalf, or if consumers hold that power alone with their fingers on the remote.

Since May 10, Dish has been advertising a digital video recorder service called "Primetime Anytime" that gives consumers access to the last eight days of prime-time programming from the four major broadcast networks ? ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox ? with the commercials stripped out. The service, available to Dish's top-tier subscribers, uses technology called "AutoHop" to deliver the programming ad-free.

In a suit filed Thursday in a Los Angeles federal court, News Corp.'s Fox says Dish's service is unauthorized and violates a licensing agreement between the two companies.

It says the service is a form of unlicensed video-on-demand because the recordings are kept on a portion of the DVR's hard drive that is controlled by Dish. Fox only licenses its regular programs to Dish for playback on VOD on the condition that fast-forwarding of commercials is disabled.

If the service isn't stopped, it "will ultimately destroy the advertising-supported ecosystem" that underpins TV shows, Fox said.

Dish maintains that the service is "user-enabled" and that it is fundamentally no different from how consumers use DVRs today. It filed its suit in a New York federal court.

"Viewers have been skipping commercials since the advent of the remote control," said Dish's senior vice president of programming, David Shull, in a statement. "We are giving them a feature they want and that gives them more control."

Comcast Corp.'s NBCUniversal and CBS Corp. also filed suits against Dish on similar grounds on Thursday.

"Dish simply does not have the authority to tamper with the ads from broadcast replays on a wholesale basis for its own economic and commercial advantage," NBCUniversal said in a statement.

CBS said in a statement: "This service takes existing network content and modifies it in a manner that is unauthorized and illegal. We believe this is a clear violation of copyright law and we intend to stop it."

A spokeswoman for The Walt Disney Co.'s ABC declined to comment.

About 40 percent of the 115 million television households in the U.S. have a DVR. Watching programs recorded on a DVR accounted for about 8.4 percent of all TV viewing among adults aged 18 to 34 last year, up from about 7.9 percent in 2010, according to TV ratings and research provider The Nielsen Co.

Uncivilized Investing

05/24/12 Melbourne, Australia ? Uncivilized times call for uncivilized investments.

Charlie Munger, Warren Buffett?s partner in crime at Berkshire Hathaway, told CNBC recently, ?I think gold is a great thing to sew into your garments if you?re a Jewish family in Vienna in 1939, but I think civilized people don?t buy gold. They invest in productive businesses.?

In a way, Munger is correct. Gold is uncivilized in the sense that it functions best when civilization functions worst. The more uncivilized a society becomes, the more civilized gold becomes.

So the easiest way to dismiss this statement is to say that maybe it?s 1939 again and maybe this time ?we?re all Jewish families in Vienna.? But let?s not let Charlie off the hook so easily. Instead, let?s ?unpack it,? in the words of our tutors at St John?s College in Santa Fe, New Mexico. To ?unpack it? we need to focus on two key words in Charlie?s statement: ?productive? and ?civilized.?

Charlie might be right if the world were, indeed, civilized. But maybe the modern world isn?t as civilized as he thinks. Part of what made the world so uncivilized in 1939 was unsound money. The abandonment of the classical gold standard in 1914 made the expansion of the Warfare state possible. The equally unsound system that emerged from World War I ? including the Treaty of Versailles ? virtually guaranteed that monetary and fiscal instability would lead to political instability. Radical parties like the Nazis flourished.

Gold, on the other hand, is sound money. You are not buying it for a capital gain. You are buying it, by our reckoning, as a way of preserving purchasing power. You extract paper from the fiat money system and turn it into something (bullion) you can later exchange for whatever currency emerges when the financial system becomes more civilized.

Interestingly, for more than a decade Berkshire has underperformed gold ? the investment asset Buffett recently called ?forever unproductive.?

Rolling 10-Year Investment Return on Gold vs. Rolling 10-Year Investment Return on Berkshire Hathaway

Since 1997, Berkshire?s shares have declined relative to this forever unproductive asset. The nearby chart depicts the trailing 10-year return of gold since 2007. Thus, the first data point on this chart shows the return an investor would have received from buying gold or Berkshire Hathaway in 1997. Moving across the chart to the right shows subsequent 10-year time frames. Bottom line: Based on a 10-year holding period, there has not been a single moment since late 1997 what an investor would have been better off buying Berkshire Hathaway instead of gold.

No wonder Charlie is so cranky!

This lengthy underperformance by Berkshire may explain Buffett?s and Munger?s very vocal and public hostility toward gold. Or maybe that?s just a function of both men living most of their adult lives in an era where the monetary system was not disintegrating. They are unable to imagine it.

But the chart above isn?t an indictment of the investment acumen of Buffett and Munger. It?s an indictment of the world?s fiat monetary system! A civilized society with civilized people has sound money. An economy with sound money has price stability. This stability allows for long-term planning and investment. This stability rewards investors for identifying which businesses are the most productive and efficient users of shareholder capital.

For these exact reasons, William McKinley campaigned for President in 1896 and again in 1900 as a champion of the gold standard. He won?twice. But just 12 years after his assassination in 1901, the Era of Incivility began: The Federal Reserve came into being. Just 20 years after that, FDR confiscated all privately held gold. And 38 years after that, Nixon cut the dollar?s last remaining ties to gold, thereby establishing today?s very uncivilized ?fiat money? system.

William McKinley Campaign Poster

In an uncivilized society, where the value of your labor is stolen through inflation (made possible by an unsound money system) long-term planning and investment become much more difficult, if not impossible.

If you accept that we live in civilized monetary times where productive labor is actually rewarded, your brain has been tranquilized by the Big Lie of our times. Munger wants you right where you are. The less you think about how uncivilized the current monetary system is, the less likely you are to question it or disrupt it (which would be inconvenient for Charlie).

But if you live an era that subverts accurate valuation of productive businesses ? an era that subverts the productivity of the economy itself by encouraging debt and consumption, owning gold seems prudent, not wacky.

Uncivilized times call for uncivilized investments.

What are the Typical Down Payment and ... - Nashville Real Estate

For many people, it is the American dream to own a home. In today?s economic times it is not always easy to save money for your dream home. Luckily, there are many ways to go about getting a home with a lower payment. If you are looking for ways to reduce your down payment and closing costs on a new home then this video is perfect for you.

This is a great time to buy Real Estate in Nolensville. The prices of houses have been drastically reduced. The ability to get into a home at a decent price is right at the tip of your fingers. The only thing in your way is the money that must be paid up front: the down payment and closing costs.

Down Payment

The great news is that you can get a lowered down payment on Real Estate in Bellevue by qualifying for an FHA loan. When getting a home mortgage the typical down payment is over 8% of the total home loan. This could mean that you would be asked to put down $16,000 on a home costing $200,000. You would not be reading this article if you had that type of money available.

This is where a Federal Housing Authority (FHA) loan comes into place. The FHA places insurance on the loan. This allows you to put a lower down payment on the home. This down payment is 3.5%. This means on the same $200,000 home you would now only owe a $7000 down payment. This is much more reasonable. It is imperative that you speak with someone to see if this option is available to you.

Closing Costs

Now, what about closing costs? The closing cost is the way that all parties involved end up getting paid for their services. The closing costs are typically paid by the buyer of the home. As with the down payment, they are based on the amount of the home loan.

One way to help with the closing cost of a home for sale is to ask the seller to pay it. You as a buyer may think this is a great idea. If you stop to think about the seller?s perspective, it may not seem like a good deal for them. So why would they do it?

Typically, when they seller agrees to pay the closing cost, they negotiate the price of the home. So say you have an offer on a home that is selling for $200,000. When a seller agrees to pay the closing, they will negotiate the price of the home to $205,000. This assumes a $5,000 closing cost.

You do not save money in the long run by doing this. However, it will help you get into the home of your dreams as you will need less money up front.

ASUS Zenbook Prime UX21A preview

It was only a matter of time before ASUS refreshed its line of Ultrabooks with Intel's new Ivy Bridge chips, but the truth is, the company needed to improve a little more than just the CPU model number. If you recall, the Zenbook UX31 ushered in a modern metal design and unbeatable speed, but our enthusiasm waned after spending a week with the flat keyboard and temperamental touchpad.

Well, friends, it looks like Chairman Jonney Shih and co. were listening: the outfit is about to bring four of its leaked Zenbook Prime laptops to the US. These include the 11-inch UX21A, which you see up there, along with the 13-inch UX31A, UX32A and the UX32VD -- essentially, the UX31A with discrete graphics. Though different configurations are bound to vary, they all bring retooled, backlit keyboards, refined trackpads and, of course, Intel's third-generation Core processors. And while the lower-end UX32A is stuck with 1366 x 768 resolution, every other model -- yes, even the tiny UX21A -- will be offered with a 1080p IPS display.

In general, ASUS isn't ready to talk availability for these four models, and has not given any indication as to how much the UX21A will cost (it did reveal tentative prices for the other three). So these aren't shipping products you can buy just yet, but luckily for us, we got the chance to spend a few days with the UX21A. While we're holding off on calling this a review -- we need a price and final, production-quality unit for that -- we're good and ready to share our early thoughts. So what are you waiting for? Meet us past the break where photos, benchmark scores and detailed impressions lie in waiting.

Well, where to start? I am a 30?s adult, had my fare share of bad luck in relationships but had some good ones too. Been married, divorced the B*** of hell 3 years ago, had a girlfriend a year after and now been flying solo a year since that ended. I am pretty content with my life and how things happened around me. Yet I have a question about a girl that I fell for and her behaviour just does not make sense.

We have known each other for a couple of years, but I would say in the last 6-7 months we became extremely close in friendship. She was flirtatious during this time and in her mid to late 20s. We do live 3 hours by plane apart. BBM during the day, every day, since 6am till 10pm and skype/phone calls some evenings. We were so involved in each other?s life?s it simply became habit. I knew everything of her, down to super personal stuff, even her ?womanly calendar?. (Can it get more personal?)

Long story short, she flew down a couple of times to visit me at the coast. We had great times, adventures, always in each other?s faces and enjoying every moment of it, I truly went out of my way to spoil her rotten. BUT, I realised I am now stuck in the ?friend zone? but managed to control my feelings towards her since she sometimes gave me the impression she is not interested in anything more. She openly admitted to me, and eventually every day, that she considers me as her ?best friend?. I don?t have best friends, only really close ones (and a few) and I did tell her that. Sorry, I don?t believe in that because I can?t place one friend above another. A Friend to me is all or nothing.

I was giving off signals that I really like her more than a friend, gifts, valentines crap, you name it and always great full and accepting but I just didn?t have the goons to tell her. I just never felt the right moment to tell her and I guess I was scare of loosing what we had. She was not like the others, and I never had a real lack in confidence, except this time. Don?t tell me she is so stupid not to sense this? Women are usually sharp at these things, right?

As per ritual she BB?d me early one morning and I obviously responded as usual. She then asked me how I allowed myself to fell in love again after my divorce. I told her it just happens, but pursuing it a matter of personal preference. She then said something that shot right through me. ?I have met someone but why does it feel weird telling you about it??. I thought WOW, here is it now. I let it ripped and tell her is it not because she knows I am into her? She told me she didn?t know I felt like THAT over her and she needs time to think. So I gave her time.

She later responded she don?t want to hurt me and whatnot and that she needs to cut things with me because she does not want to be the person that is responsible for my pain and that she do loves me. I told her short and simple she made her choice clear and I will accept it because she made her mind up and nothing I can say will change that. (not my 1st rejection).

2 days later she send me this massive email praising me, how great I am and adding again she does not want to be the one to hurt me etc. At that moment I could only read ?GUILT? for some reason or another. I thought about it for a while and send her an email back basically saying I wish it didn?t have to end like this and I do care for her but I hope the new fellow will love her and care for her as what she deserves and that I really treasure the time we spend together. I was feeling the hurt then but I knew that?s all I can do and that our friendship is lost. I don?t think she will ever look at me with the same eyes again, so I came to the conclusion time to move on.

She removed me from facebook and BBM (because her reason was not to upset me or something). I let it go and stay my distance. She text me a few days later telling me the same story of her not hurting me etc, I responded ?what?s done is done?. Again 3-4 days later the same time of text again but this time I could read deeper in that message that she actually misses me and I just responded ?I miss you too?. I was in a bike accident and she heard somehow. Text me again on how much I mean to her and that she is just glad I am ok. I just responded ?I will be ok, but thanks alot?. And now a few days later again I received a text saying she is just thinking of me and hope all is ok. I didn?t respond.

I though she is in a committed relationship, is she trying to mindf** me? I am on this website so probably yes. Is this regret of some sort? Or just guilt?

Yes, it is hard to let go, I know I have to but I am just abit confused at the moment.

This sounds quite similar to me...except I'm almost 2 years on from where you're at. I had a friend who was a guy. We were friendly from when I was about 16/17, we worked together for a bit too. Then I moved away, got married and lost touch with everyone from home. Seven years later, I left my then husband and moved home with my 18mth old daughter to start again. One night while moving belongings, I crashed my car. When I put it into the garage to be checked over, I discovered my friend still worked there. So we had a bit of a catch up. He was still with the same girl he was with before I left, and he now had 2 kids; a boy and a girl the same age as mine. Anyway, that was us back in touch again. Shortly after that he lost his job and we ended up workin together again for another of out friends. We got to be great pals again, and I also became great friends with his partner.
Anyway, a couple of years later, they split. I remained good friends to both of them - altho difficult at times. After 6 months - a year he started to let me know he liked me, thought we'd be good together etc. I kept right out of it as we were good friends, and also I thought he was just after me for easiness. Rather than have to actually go out and start dating again. Anyway, another year after that something bad happened in his life and i was sooo worried about him. Checked in on him everyday with visits, phone calls, texts etc. I was in a relationship at this point although not a very good one and it was ending. That kind of has no relevance other than I was out one night with my friends, my boyfriend at the time was also out and I had asked him to let me enjoy my night with the girls. But anyway, it didn't happen, my night got ruined and I found myself on the phone to Bob to come collect me and take me home. The next day the boyfriend was dumped for his exploits. Over the next month or so I began to realise it was always bob who I called to rescue me, from anything - car trouble, men trouble, broken lawnmower cables - and he always came.
Anyway, he was back at me that we'd be good together and I was still telling him no. We had such a strong friendship, which was soooo important to me. And I'm awful at relationships, I couldn't bear to risk wrecking our friendship.
However, one day, listening to Nickelback, if today was your last day, I decided to just go for it! I'd never forgive myself if I never took the chance.
Anyway, that was almost 2 years ago. If you see some of my other posts, you'll know it's not perfect just now. But I'll never give up, I still can't ruin that friendship!

Obviously I don't know what you're friend is thinking. But I can tell you that good friendships sometimes can be too special to risk by turning into a relationship! I still hope every single day that we never muck this up!

Good luck to you

Jaykay:

Sorry to hear this.

I have found that there are woman out there who like to get attention and gifts from men without any intention of having a real relationship with them.

I think this says something about their personality and personally if I were you I would run because it does not say anything nice.

This woman needs male attention to feed her ego, but it was really wrong for her to accept gifts and dinners out, etc. She should have paid her own way on friend's only outings and a Valentine's day gift should definitely not have been accepted or expected by her.

Run.

I disagree with Angel's advice to ask her to stop contacting you. That lets her off the hook and shifts all the emotional burden of the situation from her to you. It may also be an overreaction given the circumstances. If she's feeling guilty about the situation, then an argument can be made that she kind of brought it on herself by stringing you along all this time.

It's common for people in your situation to respond in frustration by telling the other person to go away. The way I see it, we do this out of altruism. We never really think about it in so many words, but this is what's going on in our mind: "I'm already an emotional wreck, so if I tell her to leave me alone, then I have to deal with the cold and bleak knowledge that she'll never contact me again, but at least she'll have the freedom to pursue her new relationships guilt-free. At least one person will come out happy."

But doing this is just a mild form of self-destructive behavior. A time will come when you regret doing this, and at that point your only options will be to lick your wounds and wonder what might have been, or contact her again and risk facing her anger or just ending up right back in the friend zone.

In a nutshell, keep putting the ball back in her court. Because who knows? She might end up doing something with the ball that you haven't even imagined.

JK007----You know its really sad----IMHO---you are the really NICE GUY, the guy that the girl confides in, and wants to be friends with, but never beyond that----your heart is aching, you are in love, and she doesn't even know it----what does she do---she falls for the PUA, the BADBOY, the guy with the line-------how many really, truly nice guys, and girls out there, just get their hearts stomped on-----it is hard to read some of these situations, cuz it is so sad.

1) There is no "Friend zone" (please dont make me explain why)

2) If a female is interested ever (than there exists potential either in present or the future)

3) If she ever liked you and was physically attracted to you and had an emotional attraction, than you have a chance with her. It would be best to remain friends with her if you wish it to potentially happen in the future, and for the meantime drop your interest in her somehow. And find other women it will get better and easier to move on and she could just remain your friend.

4) Her constant contacting you and wishing to have you in her life to me signifies that she is more interested than she led on. However there existed or exists conflicting interests and she cannot make her mind (which is a problem in a way) to throw it all aside and choose you.

5) At the same time her cutting you from her FB contact is very odd and she is expressing guilt in doing that.

I do no not know what to tell you. Some Women are very smart and good when it comes to reading people and if they like you and you show it to them they will not make it a big deal (as some do) and will go along for the ride.

Best of luck

Incident?s gTar Tops $120,000 On Kickstarter (That?s $110K In Less Than 24 Hours)

gtarKickstarter is a great place to launch a product. Remember the Pebble smart watch, which saw over $1 million in funding in its first 28 hours on the site, and surpassing $3 million well over a month before their stated goal? Disrupt, which just so happens to be underway as I type these very words, is also an excellent place to launch your product. We've seen countless companies rise to almost instantaneous success after stepping off of our stage, like Soluto, Mint.com, Redbeacon, and GroupMe. So it should be no surprise that Incident's now-famous gTar, which was launched both on the Disrupt Battlefield stage and on Kickstarter, has made upwards of $120,000 on Kickstarter since launching on our stage yesterday.

How Search, Social Media and Content Accelerate Your Business ...

social media book reviewsYour customers get 99% of their information from search engines, social media referrals, online news sites and targeted content.

If your business is NOT there among the solutions when your customers are looking, you?re lost.

And even if they do find you some other way, you will still lose if you don?t have compelling content to keep them engaged with your brand.

And so you must publish, you must tell stories and you must become interesting to your customers so that they find, like and trust you.

In his book, Accelerate! Move Your Business Forward Through the Convergence of Search, Social & Content Marketing, Arnie Kuenn puts it simply:

?Web users are consumers of content and you need to deliver compelling content that will engage them, and keep them coming back for more.?

This book is about successful digital publishing and consistent content quality. The author explains that if you do it right and strive for quality, you?ll produce content that:

  • Attracts links.
  • Compels people to share it on social media.
  • Meets the real needs of your customers.

He wants you to have a thorough understanding of:

  • How digital publishing works.
  • How to create the kind of content your customers are looking for.
  • How to ensure that they find it and share it.
  • How all of these things will ultimately strengthen your online presence.

What to Expect

book cover

At 13 chapters (257 pages), Accelerate! is a meaty book. It?s a very analytical and logical guide to Internet marketing. If you?re not an experienced Internet marketer, this book will give you the confidence you need to execute digital publishing from the perspective of content, search and social media.

Even if you?re a veteran Internet marketer, you can expect to get a much firmer grip on these concepts and how each contributes to the publishing process.

You?ll discover that a content strategy is very much like the links in a bicycle chain. These links are:

  • Strategy
  • Research
  • Content creation
  • Promotion
  • Distribution
  • Link-building
  • Measurement

Not only is each link vital to the strength of the whole chain, but also all links must be connected (break one link and the whole things falls apart!).

Highlights

Each of the 13 chapters serves as a powerful brainstorming exercise for your next piece of content. However, there are some key concepts that I feel compelled to highlight.

#1: Target Your Traffic Through Keyword Research

Keywords play a powerful role in a content marketing strategy. They are the basic means of communication between searcher and search engine, representing the searcher?s voice and interest. Here?s how to brainstorm for relevant keywords and phrases:

  • What are the key terms that you identify with your industry?
  • Do your products come in different styles or colors?
  • Do you have model numbers or serial numbers that someone might search for?
  • Would your product or service be categorized differently by region, or even by country? For example, one searcher might search ?auto insurance? and another might search ?car insurance.?
  • Consider your products or services by components. For example, if you sell playground equipment, what are the components of the playground equipment that you sell: swing set, slide, monkey bars, etc.?
  • From your market research, determine what kinds of questions people are asking about your industry. Do these questions give you new insight into how your products are being seen that you hadn?t considered before?

Remember, the main idea in brainstorming for keywords and phrases is to think like a searcher and put yourself in his or her shoes.

#2: Content Must be Maintained to be Successful

Content needs constant maintenance to be successful. You can?t ignore maintenance. Your content represents your brand and your expertise?your ability to meet the needs of your customers. Whether online or offline, the content you publish needs to be kept up to date in order to remain relevant, timely and accurate.

Here are some common content issues that creep up when maintenance is neglected:

  • Old, inaccurate or irrelevant content
  • Broken links within the content
  • Policy changes that may affect content
  • Inconsistency with branding style
  • Inaccurate or missing meta-descriptions

To begin monitoring your existing content assets, you will need to do a content audit, which involves using a simple Excel spreadsheet to take inventory.

In the end you want to keep content that:

  • Is relevant, timely and useful.
  • Meets your organizational goals.
  • Adds value to your customers? experience.

#3: Proper use of Links to Optimize Content

The way that you handle links is a significant part of search engine optimization. The most important thing is to make it clear where a link will take your visitors?don?t surprise them. Using ambiguous or generic words such as ?click here? as anchor text, is a less effective linking strategy than using clear and definitive words.

Here are some link tips:

  • A link?s color should be different from the main text?most people expect it to be blue and underlined, so you might want to keep that in mind as you set up your style sheet.
  • The words that you highlight (anchor text) should be a good clue to the content that you?re linking to. Try not to send your visitor to a page that they?re not expecting.
  • Broken links look sloppy and give the impression that you?ve forgotten about the page. Both users and search engines frown upon broken links.
  • Search engines want to see links in your content, and internal links are the easiest way to accomplish that. Internal links are clues to your website?s relevance.
  • When using internal links, avoid generic anchor text such as ?Want to read more? Click here.? Again, search engines want to see relevance in the anchor text. To ensure relevance, make sure that the anchor text for those links matches the title of the page it links to, whether it?s a page on your site or a page on another website.
  • Above all, links should direct users to a page that is relevant to the content that they are currently engaging. Directing users away from the topic at hand is a surefire way to lose their attention.

#4: Use Social Media to Promote Content?the Right Way

The greatest value of social media is that it?s social. You have the opportunity to engage and interact with potential customers by adding a sense of familiarity and comfort to your brand image.

The Motor Lodge in Prescott, AZ is a great example of a small business doing this on Facebook. They?ve generated a following of about 1,600 fans on their page, and are keeping them engaged with updates about life at the hotel (even though most of their followers aren?t immediately looking to spend the night in Prescott).

Their success comes first from a quality website that demonstrates who they are, is appealing to visitors and is easily navigable.

The Motor Lodge has a visually attractive website that shows off their brand's personality.

Second, they consistently post interesting content on Facebook, such as stories about their resident cat Shadow, and invitations for fans to ?come to our place for a good shower.? Their updates treat followers as friends and even more importantly, the down-to-earth posts encourage comments and interaction.

Third, their updates aren?t necessarily about them, but rather offer reasons to come to Prescott, AZ. These kinds of updates don?t sound like advertising, but for last-minute getaways, this quaint little town will be on the radar of most of their fans, and they?ll have a reason to stay at the lodge!

You can do this too by building relationships on Facebook so that when you have some content to promote, you have an audience that?s ready to receive it. Take a look:

Personal Impression

Accelerate! is an exceptional book and now that I?ve read it, I?m a HUGE fan of Arnie Kuenn! If you read it, you?ll see why.

I love that he talks about something often overlooked that is at the very heart of digital publishing: that it?s not just about content marketing and social media. Far from it!

There?s a ton of work that goes on behind the scenes to boost online presence. Things like research, link-building, content curation, content audits, understanding how search engines work, reputation management and other activities which are extremely important parts of the digital publishing process?and they?re all very well explained in this book.

You?ll find tremendous value in this book and some tips in particular; for example, how to send link requests that don?t get deleted, and how to approach bloggers who are out of your league. He even explains how to develop a customized pitch. To say that this is a great book is an understatement. So if you?re doing business online, you absolutely have to read Accelerate!

If Social Media Examiner could give this book a 6-star rating, we would! But there?s no such thing, so a full 5-star rating will have to do!
