Mayor pledges fundraising for MLK parade; council panels waivering

Jacksonville Mayor Alvin Brown pledged Wednesday to lead a fund-raising drive for celebrations of Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday as two City Council committees deadlocked on providing city money. Brown said tapping private donations would be an example of the public-private partnerships he has sought to forge. The mayor said the government cannot do everything "by itself" so he will seek to raise private contributions for the Jan. 16 event. read more ...
