Symbolism behind a chrysanthemum tattoo flower design

Most floral tattoo designs some with profound symbolism and a rich history that stretches back centuries from one side of the globe to another. The chrysanthemum tattoo is no exception and has been revered from ancient China and Japan, to Europe and the United States too. While its symbolism may vary from culture to culture, it is synonymous with death and mourning in many European countries so not surprisingly it is a popularly requested image for memorial style tattoos. In Austria and Belgian, this particular bloom is used exclusively on graves in memory of loved ones who have passed while Italians use them as funeral flowers. However on a more positive note these also symbolize happiness and longevity, with one legend proclaiming that a petal from this flower placed in a glass of wine will ensure one leads a healthy, long life.
